Share Christ With Someone
I’m Wesley Horne. And thank you for taking a minute to consider how you can encourage your pastor.
As a college student, an elder told me how he came to Christ. He said as a young businessman, another young businessman invited him out to lunch one day. That one time became a weekly ritual. And they became fast friends.
But early on, he told the man who had befriended him, when he realized he was a Christian, he said, “But I’m never gonna buy into that Jesus stuff.” His friend told him, “Well, I hope you won’t mind if I don’t give up on that. But I want you to know whether you do, or you don’t, you are my friend.” And that friendship continued for about five years.
The man who had been befriended had a family crisis. And his friend was the one he turned to to walk him through it because he was his best friend. He was the man he trusted.
In a very natural way, this friend shared with him the claims of Christ and the difference it had made in his life. And he came to Christ.
And that elder encouraged me. He said, “Wesley, I want you to make that a practice in your life.”
And now I’m standing here encouraging you in the same way.
Don’t get uptight about evangelism. But just pray. And open your eyes. Look for people in your workplace, where you live, where you play who need someone to befriend them.
And friends talk. And they talk deeply. And you will find very natural opportunities to share Christ with those that are your friends.
If you decide to do that, and I hope you will, please drop your pastor a note. Tell him what you’ve decided to do. And ask him, the leaders of your church, to pray for you. It will encourage them more than you can imagine.
Thank you for taking a minute to consider how you can encourage your pastor.
